Welcome!

Welcome, whether you're new to my stuff or an old reader, to Farfalla (previously Coming Later, lately Ooh! Shiny!). The butterfly imagery, in addition to being just plain adorable, is indicative of the blog's changes over the past year or so, but no worries; I'm having as much fun as ever and I hope that's apparent.
I hope you enjoy, and as always,

Resolutions/Day Zero

(If you track my progress on Poco a Poco, you probably know all this stuff. But this is my equivalent of a New Year's Resolution. For other 101/1001 Projects by people you may know, check out Alex's, Naomi's, and Anna's blogs. There are a few more people who SAID they'd fill out a list but it turns out they were vicious lying liar-faces who lied.)

Year End Survey, Stolen Shamelessly From Anna

1. What did you do in 2010 that you'd never done before?
Several things! I found a new church; changed my hair a LOT; went on a "normal" date; performed in a play (not a musical or opera); earned money mending things, and a few things I can't say. ;)

2. Did you keep your new year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I kept a few... they're in another post. And I'll probably make some more, but I'll discuss that tomorrow.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Not "close", per se. Just people in my church.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
Again, not "close". A few people I barely knew passed away.

5. What countries did you visit?
None!

6. What would you like to have in 2011 that you lacked in 2010?
I want to say a boyfriend, but let's not get carried away. How about a job? That doesn't interfere with school?

7. What date from 2010 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
Uhm, well.. it wasn't a great year. We'll put it that way. And I will probably take a lot of it with me. But in positivity, December 18th was AWESOME.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Uhm... probably getting back to Minnesota to deal with my stuff!

9. What was your biggest failure?
Well, uhm. The whole year.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Both. I went from being able to lift, run, jump, and play in January to a helpless cripple who can't see to read or sew, lift anything bigger than a bowling ball, and is in pretty much constant pain. AND THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT'S WRONG WITH ME though two more people just joined the "I think you have fibromyalgia" parade, so i need to go to the doctor.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
Aromaleigh stuff, or my plane ticket.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
I can't think of anyone, but I'm not really sure what the question is...?
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Ha! Well, let's see... a few youtube commenters, an Online Critic, the XBF AND the XBFBFF, and a few "friends" that took differences of opinions to drastic measures.

14. Where did most of your money go?
Makeup. Gas. The usual.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
The theatre stuff, I guess. And Minnesota. And my birthday. But mostly the theatre stuff.

16. What song will always remind you of 2009?
Of 2009 or 2010? Any of my 2009 choir songs would fit for 2009. And "Any Dream Will Do" for 2010. *gag*

17. Compared to this time last year:
happier or sadder? Sadder.
Older or wiser? Both.
Thinner or Fatter? Fatter. But it's not my fault! I can't work out!
Richer or poorer? Poorer.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Behaving myself. Watching my mouth.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Copping an attitude (?), letting personal problems bog down my life.

20. How did you spend Christmas?
With Alex and then with family.

21. How will you be spending New Years Eve?
Chinese food, chick flicks, and something to toast the New Year!

22. Did you fall in love in 2009?
You mean 2010? Yes for 2009; no for 2010. But I did fall OUT of love, and that's the most important thing, I think.

23. How many one-night stands?
Ha,  no.

24. What was your favorite TV program?
Hmm... Probably Hellcats.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
YES. >.>

26. What was the best book you read?
I didn't read a lot this year... but I did read the two new Sophie Kinsella books, and they were (as always) adorable.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
I CAN BELT. AND SING ALTO. OMG.*

*YES THIS DOES CALL FOR CAPS

28. What did you want and get?
A second chance, a third chance, a fourth chance...; a passing grade; a new laptop battery; a plane ticket north.

29. What did you want and not get?
A few parts in plays (horror!), a job, a scholarship

30. What was your favorite film(s) of this year?
Toy Story 3, I guess... it and Eclipse were the only new movies I watched, so...

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I was 22; I had an awesome Corbyjane weekend with a sleepover and show-watching.

32. What would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
The world not ending in April.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2010?
I kind of transmogrified into Lara... it all started when I got UGG boots and long sweaters for Christmas... but I think I've carved my own fashion sense out, with flowers and ribbons in hair.

34. What kept you sane?
My cat and my sister. :)
35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
The usuals... Sebastian Arcelus, Nathan Fillion...
36. What political issue stirred you the most?
The only one I really care about. (hint: it involves slaughtering babies)
37. Who did (do) you miss?
Currently? My sister and my cat. And HEATHER, who I wouldn't HAVE to miss if she'd get her butt up here!!!

38. Who was the best new person/ people you met?
Oh wow. This year? Hmmm... I guess any number of children, the lovely Naomi coming to mind first. Also Natalie & Lacey.
39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2010:
I can do hard things.
40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
For spring means rebirth

Though each flower dies
The seeds fall to earth,
Take root, and rise...

Reviewing New Year's Resolutions...

This is from two years ago. Notations from last year:

New Year’s Resolutions:
1. Make God my ranting buddy, not my friends. done. In a way.
2. Memorise more scripture, including references. (Anyway, at least the chapters. Or the book) Not done. Keep it.
3. Stop biting my fingernails. Not done. Give up, as bitter stuff made me sick. [..]
4. Either tone my body fat or lose it.  As pointed out, impossible to tone fat. Give up.
5. Follow my own script, not my friends’. Done. Am now loudmoutheder than ever before.
6. Either confront my problems, or don’t talk about them. If they’re not big enough to face, they’re not big enough to gossip about. Doneish, with select people I run to with problems.
7. Practise what I preach. Not done. Keep.
8. Turn in homework on time. NEVAR
9. Drink more water. Done. Pee all the time now.
10. Ask more questions. Done. People ignore me anyway.
11. Admit it when I’m confused, and stop faking it when I’m not.  Done.
12. Risk being wrong.  I did. And I was.
13. Not get something I want. Let's see. Summer Teams, Fiyero, Job, Life. I think I can cross this one off the list.
14. Make decisions about who I allow to influence me. Done.
15. Lighten my hair. Done. It looks so pretty!
16. Speak up and stop nodding. Undone, but have at least progressed from nodding to "Mhm".
17. Pay attention; zone out less. Still ADD. Keep.
18. Stop taking things personally. NEVER
19. Keep in touch with my CA friends over more than facebook. Well, I'm here, aren't I?
20. Finish my Disneyland, AFLBS 07-08 and 08-09 scrapbooks. Still DIsneylandless
21. Slack off less. 50 hours this week so far.
22. Spend less money on stupid stuff. (But don’t stop treating my friends) With poverty came less friend-spoiling. I'm sorry.
23. Use one of the guys’ numbers I’ve been given—even if it’s just to talk. Still undone.
24. Don’t worry about lack of relationships, or get carried away with the possibility of one. He didn't want me anyway
25. Don’t lie, even just to cover. Even if it’s fun. ARGH
26. Let people be smarter/better than me.  DONE IN A BIG WAY
27. Get MN identification, plates, etc. *laughs*

What's left?

This is from last year:

New Year’s Resolutions:
1.  Memorise more scripture, including references. Surprisingly, I've improved on this.
2. Practise what I preach. I think I'm getting better. With the grace of God.
3. Turn in homework on time. Err... what homework?
4. Speak up and stop mhming. I have! I really have! =D
5. Pay attention; zone out less. Ugh. I think I've gotten even more distractable.
6. Stop taking things personally. I'm trying. But I really suck at it.
7. Finish my Disneylandscrapbooks. AHAHAHA
8. Use one of the guys’ numbers I’ve been given—even if it’s just to talk. I've been on three dates this year. I call it progress.
9. Don’t lie, even just to cover. Even if it’s fun. Yeah. Uhm. Working on that. Really.
Tomorrow? 2011 resolutions! Which will be tied in with the Day Zero project! Yay! =)

Dream Journal Entry #13

So yesterday I was with a group of people that called me Corby for much of the day, and I guess that slipped into my dreams, because I dreamt that when I got home, everyone was calling me Corby and I just about killed people. To the extent that all of my costumes were labelled "Corby", and no one would change it. And in the end I yelled at someone you do NOT yell at, and then I spent the rest of the dream hiding in a closet and whimpering, "but... my name is Corbyjane! CORBYJANE!"

Ugh. I have a hard time correcting people. If they're just meeting me, I'll make sure they get it right. But what do you do when you're with a group of people who have apparently been calling you Corby behind your back for a year and a half? I really desperately need to just tattoo my name to my forehead.

Minnesnowta in pix, part c.

Snow! We actually did quite a lot today... I just didn't take many pictures. :) We drove to New Prague for Abby's birthday, hung out, did half a puzzle (I'm twitchy because I didn't finish it... UGH.), watched Toy Story 3 (I was too out of it to cry, but Emily, predictably, bawled), half of How To Lose A Guy In Ten Days, went for coffee with Em's BFF Bryn, came home, and unloaded approximately one third of my storage unit into Em's apartment. The tote of clothes and fabric is still in her car, along with a small tub of books.

Abby liked her gifts. :)

So I'm doing pretty well. I'm still adjusting to the cold--not to BEING cold so much as my skin adjusting to the lack of moisture--traditionally as things get colder and dryer gradually, your skin produces more oil to accommodate the dryness. However, just jumping into weather like this, my skin is freaking out. I can throw on lotion, absorb it in less than ten minutes, and need another coat. Blarg.

Aaaand with just me and Em, I'm not following the "no lifting" rule because I mean seriously, it's not realistic, but my back is definitely paying for it. Though it hasn't gone out yet, thank goodness. It just feels disaligned and will probably go out at some point. And then I don't know what I'll do.

Also, being away from home after a year and a half is a little difficult. I miss my cat and my sister, and I worry things are going to blow up or people are going to die while I'm gone. I'm paranoid, I know... but yes...

BUT other than that, I'm having an awesome time. =D

Also, in a brief dream journal note, I left my journal home, but I did have an extremely vivid dream that two theatre groups were doing Fiddler this summer, and Alex and a few others from the OTHER theatre group were sneaking into the Western Stage theatre during their performances to sabotage them, and I kept running into Reg Huston who was playing Tevye, and he kept asking me about my life even as I was trying to pull the rope to drop a sandbag on the ensemble. And I woke up going, "Oh I am so going to be in trouble for this..."

Minnesnowta in pix, part II

We met Phill & Joy & children at Mall of America. This mural is made out of Legos. Plus also, it is very large.
I was terrified I wasn't going to recognise the kids. I don't know why... It's only been 18 months. But for whatever reason, I was very nervous. Good news! They look the same, but bigger. And Joshua no longer speaks his own special language. For how little he was when I stayed, he remembered me pretty well. :) Joshua was also very snuggly, which was, ya know, TERRIBLE since I am not a snuggly person. Uh-huh. Totally. I would certainly never sit holding a child for hours on end. Nope. Not for me. *Cough*

And Mashu Baby still cackles... I tell you. When they grow up, Christopher's going to be the brave plucky hero, Joshua the evil scientific mastermind who invents the robot... and Matthew's just going to be a completely insane villain in the vein of the Joker. Look at the above picture and tell me he is not saying, "I have you now, Mr Bond!"

"Take take take a picture of my arms like THIS, Corby!"
Oh yes. These children are pretty much the only people I don't mind calling me Corby. I mean, I do mind, but I feel like it would be difficult to explain, "Well, Corby was the brunette nerd who really didn't like herself or anyone else for that matter and had the social skills of a termite; Corbyjane is the beautiful redheaded woman who likes herself WAY too much!" So I let it go. But this does not apply to YOU.

I didn't get a picture of Christopher, so here's one of Matthew. Isn't he adorable?

Minnesnowta in pics, part 1.

I may put further exposition later. For now, pictures and captions.

We left for the airport at TWO AM. We got there at four. For a 6.10am flight two days after Christmas, realistic  timing, right? Well, guess what. Southwest baggage check doesn't open till FIVE. Who the hell approved this? UGH. However, once they got there, the check-in people were very sweet, and I made a point of NOT cussing them out, and said, "Wow, it must really suck to have your schedule determined by idiots!" and got a little empathy going. The woman said, "I know! I've told them again and again people need more time..."

Goodbye to the Bay! Also, just the edge of a sunrise on the edges. I slept for most of this flight.

More of the ocean that you can't see... it doesn't matter that I've seen it less than a dozen times in the past year and a half. I am comforted just knowing that it is there.

I woke up just in time to see the Rockies! Beautiful... and with snow! We stopped briefly in Denver airport...

So that woman in blue? Yeah. That's the back of Kristen Wiig's head.

Merry Christmas!

How was your Christmas? My family and Alex went to the Candlelight Service at St A's (general shock and horror; I'm hoping a church appearance means fewer little old ladies are sitting up nights praying for my soul, but considering my name is still changed, I'm still dying my hair, and I am in the process of getting a tattoo, this seems unlikely). As tends to happen at an 11pm service, we got the giggles halfway through the sermon. And in the six months I've been away, no, the wine has not gotten any better.

I kid, I kid. I love St Ansgars and I always feel like I did when I was 11 there. And I still wonder what would happen if we filled the entire sanctuary with water... would the boat float?

So after the service, we went home, made teriyaki chicken, and talked until about 6am. It was really fun to just sit and talk all night. And then Christmas day, there were presents... oh, the presents!

What exciting stuff did you get? I got a TON of candy... like seriously. One of those giant footlong candy canes (I love peppermint... i eat it with ice water), three different brands of jelly beans, dark chocolate mints, dark chocolate orange thins, chocolate, Toblerone...

Recap Reading: Left Behind

So I'm in love with reading people's recaps of awful books... Cleolinda's Twilight recaps are LEGEN [wait for it] DARY and you should check them out; there are some brilliant Eragon recaps by English majors I am far too lazy to look up; and I am currently in the process of reading the Slacktivist's notes on Left Behind

Dreams... weird dreams...

Not sure which # this is. Ah well.
Last night was a night of twisted normalcy. I basically dreamt everything that happened yesterday, only coloured a bit. I gave Kate a purple present (instead of blue), went clubbing instead of to Target (and they wouldn't let me in, so i told them my name was Dan Humphrey), and my cat was significantly larger than he normally is. Also, my mom was not bedridden. Which she actually isn't right now, but she stays in bed anyway.

Anyways. Happy Holidays! The Minnesota countdown is 7 days, if you're following. :)

Death Blarg: I have it.

Voice & Diction finals are so lovely when you have... no voice. As one classmate quipped (upon my inquiring what happens in a voice & diction final when you have no voice), "Your diction becomes VERY important!"

I think I did all right. Scratch it, I know I did all right. I always do all right. I just rarely do fantastically amazingly well. I am a chronic B student, and I am fine with it. (Well, at Hartnell I am a chronic A+ student, but that just shows how easy community colleges are)

So it has now been a full year since my last voice lesson. Money is tight at the moment, so I don't know when or who my next teacher will be. Oh dear.

I am slowly getting used to my brown hair, but I realised something yesterday: I started getting sick as soon as we dyed my hair (Sunday. My sore throat kicked in in full force on Monday). I do not think this is coincidence. I think I am allergic to being brunette.

But yes, Christmas break officially begins today. And I seem to be the ONLY PERSON ON THE PLANET who hasn't been inundated with Christmas music. I think I've heard five songs on the radio so far. WUT.

And in health news... I am still sick.

I regret to inform you that reports of my death...

...are all true. I am slowly succumbing to death blarg. My sinuses are all broken and destroyed and I have to get a plumber in here because I have some leaky pipe stuff going on with my nose and eyes... watering, sniffling, etc.
I had a will on my laptop, but apparently it got wiped in the Great Devirusing of 2010, so here's what I remember: Nicole Stephens gets my purple clothes, Alex gets to talk at my funeral, I want to be cremated, ashes to be divided into 10 parts and put in thermoses. Ten people (thinking immediate family, Heather, Emily, Ashley, Ashley, Alex, and anyone else) take a thermos each and go to Disneyland. At random points throughout the trip, you scatter ashes--on rides, in lakes, in bathrooms, in gardens--I started there. I might as well end there.
Also, at my funeral sing "Field of Flowers" and everyone wears shades of purple, yellow, and turquoise, and pink. I don't remember much else...

My mom is currently in the hospital. She had an emergency hysterectomy due to some leaky pipes of her own, and last I heard she is doing well. Granted, I can't hear much at the moment so it could have been "SHe was fine until we threw her down the well..." but that's probably inappropriate humour, there...

So yes. That's where I am. Last night I kept waking up with wet pillows from leaking orifices. I'm going to die....

Does anyon know what happens if you have no voice for your voice & diction final? I can't imagine it's very pretty...

Hair. Makeup. Finals!

(That's a take off on "Lights. Camera. Action!" but I don't think it works)

So we shall have a daily recap as in the days of yore, except that it shall be a three hour recap.

Err... so I dyed my hair. I dyed it "Light Golden Brown" and it looked like this:
Still not dramatic enough. If I'm going temporary brunette I'm going all the way, dagnabbit.

So I went over it with "Medium Brown" (No golden. Just "Medium".)
And it looks like this:

And I know, it's cute. It's not my real hair colour; my real haircolour is this: BLACK EXCEPT NOT QUITE BLACK MORE DARKISH MURKY WATER AT NIGHT LOOKING.

Glitter shoes! (Cross posted from Turquoise & Sparkly)

"Before". I got these shoes for $7 at the thrift store in MN. I cut off the bow and covered them in Elmer's Glue

"After". Then I poured glitter all over them (over a piece of paper on top of the newspaper). I used maybe half the container per shoe, but then taking them off the paper, shaking them, and funneling the excess glitter back into the container left me with almost a full container. It used less than a quarter of the container.

I'm giving them 24 hours to dry, then we'll do a second coat (I missed several places because the glue dried at weird times). I think I'm going to hairspray them and then cover them in polyeurathane.

I got these instructions from a tutorial I found linked to on wwepw.blogspot.com but I can't find it right now.

Blog recommendations!

Part deux!

Okay, honestly, just a couple: Naomi (who apparently also goes by Hannah Naomi) has a new blog, and it is Crea-Lala. I've known Naomi for maybe a year and she is darling and sweet and she has red hair which I secretly want to steal. Her blog is structured around the Day Zero project, and I gotta say, I'm loving her list. A few months ago I got called on how my list is pretty selfish (it is, I know) but hers is very deep and while she's got a lot of fun stuff (writing in journals, singing) there's SO much there that's for others (operation beautiful! =D), and it made me smile. So yes. Check her out.

Alex has a new blog. It is called OhOkayAlex. My sister and I were talking the other night and decided that she, Alex, and Ashley M are probably the only people in the universe who are able to simultaneously take me seriously AND be amused by my freakouts. Everyone else does one or the other. And it's like, yes, I know I'm being ridiculous and it looks funny, but I am very serious about wanting to kill that girl for stealing my pencil, so stop laughing and commiserate, dang it! OR you take me seriously, but when I say "Let's kill her!" you respond, "Murder isn't nice, Corbyjane!" and I really need you to be like, "great--we'll put the body in the shoe closet!"
Alex does both.
This has nothing to do with his blog, which is Day Zero focused, but it's worth pointing out.
His list is here. I really found it a fascinating read! And "Hollow out a book", weirdly, is somethign I also want to do...

Erisedstraeh, also known as Andrea, also known as Webmistress of Galinda's Wardrobe, has a sewing blog here.

What Would Emma Pillsbury Wear? is a Glee fansite dedicated to Emma's wardrobe. IT'S AMAZING.

Becca of OHWTO has a makeup blog called "I Squee'd!" Becca kind of rocks my world--this morning I got a package with a buttload of extra goodies ("Merry Christmas!" she says)--and I'm excited to see what she's up to.

Am I missing anyone? Oh, probably. Whose blogs do you enjoy? :)

How's it going, y'all...

I'm having a difficult time getting back into the Daily Recap format of Ooh Shiny!, and maybe that's just as well. I'm busier, and I have enough people keeping an eye on me now that it's awkward doing the whole "So guess what so and so said today" deal. It kind of snowballed out of control last year, anyway.

So, let's see. I might have failed my math final, which I knew was a distinct possibility, as I get 100% on homework (where I can check my work and the computer's like, "dude, you made that negative, it should be positive!") but 50% on tests, because I do so frequently do things like reverse numbers (455 becomes 544). I know how to do it, but I make simple mistakes. Also, I got 2% on my last homework because I hit "submit answers" instead of "next question", AND my last midterm the internet was patchy and submitted everything when I was halfway through. So between my stupidity and the computer's ineptitude, yeah.

Kind of a surprise is possibly failing Musicianship & Harmony... I missed the last two classes for reasons that don't need exploring at this juncture. We are supposed to compose and conduct a song for class. Once we've composed it, we put it on the computer using Finale and then print it out in parts for the instruments (requiring a lot of keychanging and clef-altering). Well, I missed the class where we learned how to use Finale. So when I got in on Thursday, I got a tenor to help me on the computer. BAD IDEA. Tenors, though pretty, are useless.
He made my tenor line an alto-clef, so of course that was all thrown off. Once it was printed out, I gave the appropriate parts to the appropriate instruments, and tried to conduct.

I'm very uncoordinated, and somehow counting "1, 2, 3, 4" WHILE WAVING MY HAND was just impossible. It prompted the prof to ask, in front of a 20-piece orchestra and my classmates, "Can you even count to four?!"
I swear that's what he said, word for word. In my head he said it sarcastically and meanly but I know my own perception of events well enough to say that he was probably trying to joke.
So I'd dressed up all nice that day, wearing a pencil skirt and heels and a turquoise sweater, all with a black belt over it. So part way through the song--the belt fell off. And landed on the floor. Shortly thereafter, four musicians said, "WHAT THE HECK IS THIS?!" which was when the prof decided he wasn't even going to try finishign my song because clearly "something went horribly awry with it".
I'm not sure if I get credit at all for that or not...
It was a very difficult day. I nearly started crying in my next class. Now it's kind of funny, really...

But yeah. Possibly failing two classes.

Uhm... so Daniel Rocket happened. I don't want to give the wrong impression--the show wasn't that dirty. I would have gone to see it and enjoyed it. However, being in it was difficult because I have all these fangirls ages 7-12 that want to see me in a show... and are YOU going to tell the 7-year-old, "Oh no, honey, you can't see my show because we talk about nudie pictures and sex!" ? I mean, really?! So it's not that I'm that huge of a prude--though I'll admit that I am pretty conservative--it's just that I don't really want to be in a show I can't tell people about, you know?
Yeah. But now it's done. I did enjoy parts of it. It was kind of exciting to have less structure than I'm used to... but also confusing. I  think I prefer being told exactly what to do and then doing it. Then if people hate it you can be like, "Well, I was just doing what SHE told me to!" and then the pressure is off.

Uhmmm... let's see what else. I dyed my hair brown. SHOCK AND HORROR. I'm going to Minnesota over spring break and it is exciting! And... that's about it. What have you been up to?

When's the last time you ran?
When Alex and I were running from the Maya.

Do your jeans have rips, tears, and holes in them?
I do not wear jeans. I haven't for over a year now. And it rocks.

What are you dreading right now?
Voice & Diction class, because I can only put so many things at #1 priority before it starts getting a little crowded, and Jeff is the unfortunate soul who gets bumped down to #2 priority, which still leaves me the five other things all crowding around #1 priority, so really, it's horrible to say, but Jeff, I do not CARE if I have monologue or instructions tomorrow. I don't care if you're annoyed with me. I'm pretty.

Do you celebrate 420?
Err...? I guess not.

Do you get the full 8 hours of sleep a night?
Nope. I get 4-5.

If anyone came to your house on your "lazy days" what would ya'll do?
Sleep and play online.

Who last grabbed your ass?
The child who stood behind us in line at Kohls on Black Friday. Except I think she was more resting her arm.

Have you ever been on your school's track team?
Lol nope.

Do you own a pair of Converse?
Nope.

Did you copy and paste this survey?
Yep.

Do you eat raw cookie dough?
