Special thanks to Anna for suggesting this...
I would like to formally invite one and all to participate in my new challenge, "10 lb. Marshmallow: Project Sogno Diario"! (Sogno Diario = Dream Diary). The title comes from a quote by Tommy Cooper: "Last night I dreamed I ate a ten pound marshmallow and when I woke up, the pillow was gone." Isn't that funny?
Recording your dreams is recommended by a lot of psychologists and therapists, and is one of the first steps in trying to attain lucid dreaming. And while I don't believe that, as a rule, dreams are prophetic or profound introspections into your life, they are a result of your life experiences and desires, and what you dream can say a lot about you.
Plus, everyone loves talking about their dreams. Listen to one person start telling you about a dream they had last night. The moment she stops for breath, someone else is bound to jump in with, "this one time, I dreamed that..." and guess what--on your blog, there's no one to interrupt you.
The Rules are quite simple: record your dreams and blog about them. You can be as simple or detailed as you like. I choose to comment on themes in my dreams; Anna (of Splendiloquent) initially began her dream journal as part of a psychology assignment to go all Freudian on them; it's up to you.
Additionally, you don't have to blog anything that makes you uncomfortable. Sometimes we dream disturbing or just inappropriate subject matter. Don't feel like you have to post everything--but do write it down in your dream journal!
Not only that, but you don't have to post every day. Sometimes we don't remember or don't even dream, and that's quite all right. However, I do recommend you give yourself a goal. Perhaps you do want to try to post every day, or at least once a week.
Things You'll Need [and To Do]: (inspired by Anna)
- A dream journal. This can be an old notebook, a pretty diary you bought at Borders, or a few sheets of binder paper. You'll want to put it beside your bed so you can write dreams down as soon as you wake up, as the details from dreams tend to fade very quickly.
- A blog. If you want to start a blog just for dream journalling, that's wonderful; otherwise posting on your personal blog is just fine, as well.
- Please comment on this post giving me a link to your blog. I'll add you to a list of participants at the end of this post, so that you can find other people who are doing the same thing. I will also add you to my blogroll and follow your blog, too.
- Choose one of the following images to post on your blog (or make your own). If you're tech savvy enough to make the image link back to this post, I'll love you very much. ^.^ (And if you do make your own, I would request that you stick to the text on mine: "10 lb Marshmallow: Project Sogno Diario by Farfalla" so that it matches the others. Also, send it to me! I'll post it.)
- Keep an eye on this blog for prompt questions, opportunities to win dream-related prizes, and more! (And yes, by prizes, I do mean STUFF. I'm not opposed to bribing my readers ;)
1. Myself (Corbyjane of Farfalla)
2. Anna (Splendiloquent)
3. Ashley (Pagan Nuns And Buddha)
Badges: (All images aside from my cat from SXC free stock images database)
They're high-resolution, but can easily be resized on any photo editing software, or, if you like, just save the thumbnail and it will be that size. Also, if you would prefer a different format or want something that matches your blog a little better, let me know; I'm happy to oblige as time permits. :)
Here are some articles about dream journalling. I'll be posting some personal tips later on this evening, and I encourage you to share your own. :)
