Welcome!

Welcome, whether you're new to my stuff or an old reader, to Farfalla (previously Coming Later, lately Ooh! Shiny!). The butterfly imagery, in addition to being just plain adorable, is indicative of the blog's changes over the past year or so, but no worries; I'm having as much fun as ever and I hope that's apparent.
I hope you enjoy, and as always,

Merry Christmas!

Well, for starters, I did not sleep well last night. I had a migraine when I went to bed, and first I just tried sleeping. Then I tried an ice pack. Then I took four ibuprofin (and had some crackers to keep from killing my stomach) and tried sleeping. While the last approach worked best (I finally fell asleep) the pain in my head kept keeping me awake, and my head still hurts.
But it got better.

We just opened presents, and I received (along with a host of candy and other trinkets) turquoise and purple earrings from Claire's, a Cherry Bean (the coffee shop next door) gift card, the American Apparel yoga pants that have been at the top of my list for 9 months in grey and black (still on the list, if you're wondering: the same pants in navy, baby blue, fuschia, and pink) (I already have them in black, but in a size slightly too small)
And a pair of UGGs. I'm very excited; I cannot wait to wear them with impunity. (Because it's not a rehearsal)
I'm very happy; one of my pet peeves (which serves to underline how ungrateful I am) is when family members buy me presents I didn't ask for and/or don't need. I'd much prefer you either buy me something you know without a doubt I want (the yoga pants, the UGGs, the earrings--which I didn't ask for specifically, but I was telling my sister the other day that I really need some more purple accessories, because it's a colour I wear all the time) or get me a gift card to somewhere you know without a doubt I'll shop at (Wal-Mart, Kohls, Cherry Bean) than just getting me something random. While getting stuff is always exciting, I'm on a very small budget and I need very specific things. So yes.
This of course doesn't apply to friends, because they can get me anything they like, no pressure. It's just the family members I wish would fall in line. And this year, for the first time ever, they did. I feel like I just won a war.
Oh yes, I also got an awesome tote bag from my Fairy Godmother. It has a cat on top of a stack of books and the phrase "Cats. Books. Life is good." I plan on using it to take my work home. For instance, like I wish I'd done with that stack of tights, because now I am just sitting at home thinking about how much there is to do when I get back, and tights is one of them. It's about double the size of my black bag, so bully for me. =)
So now I'm eating these gummi licorice scottish terrier candies. They taste like wax until you bite them, at which point they become licorice and stick to you teeth. Does anyone else like licorice, or is it just my family?

My SAT scores are in.

I'm okay with it; I'm not a genius anymore (I think I've been at a 10th grade level of knowledge my entire life. When I was 4, I was a super genius for a 4-year-old. Now I'm 21, and... not so much.) so it's fine.
In the national percentile (no, I'm not giving you my exact scores. Geez) I tested:

  • Critical Reading: 93% (slightly lower than expected, but adequate)
  • Math: 43% (actually higher than expected, even though it's still not lovely)
  • Writing: 81% (again, lower, but it's fine)
My essay was an 8, which is apparently the equivalent of a Bish. That's fine.

Dead days are my favourite...

It could be improved by my dad not being here, but it's close enough. I stayed up until 4am this morning, crashed around 5, and slept until noon. I don't know what's wrong with me, but I rarely sleep longer than 6-8 hours anymore, no longer how tired I am. Usually it's more like 5. I miss the teenagery days of running off of 2-3 hours a night Monday through Friday, and then spending about 24 hours sleeping it off over Saturday and Sunday. It was a good system, and it worked.
No one was home when I got up, so I kept myself occupied searching for classes. I need to carry 12 credits to be covered by my parents' insurance. Last semester I took 3 classes and padded with extra curriculars like Choir and Chambers. But as I believe I stated multiple times over the fall, I will shoot myself before I join choir again.
And since I'm mostly just passing time until I figure my life out, I just need to pick classes that will do something for my major/Gen Ed. So English classes, music classes, or theatre classes.
Also, this semester I had five classes in a row, MWF, 8am to 1pm. The solid block worked pretty well (and I was used to it after the two years of Bible School), but I think I would like to modify this by having four classes in a row 9-1.
HOWEVER, I really want to take a class taught by my Critical Thinking teacher, Dan Petersen, and it runs 1 to 2.10. So I'll have to see. It's difficult. I wish he were teaching more classes. Currently I'm registered for that class and Music Fundamentals, which is at 9am. It's still subject to change, pending openings in the class, etc.

In other news, I have been playing with my "new" phone (about a month old) and FINALLY discovered how to make new ringtones. Well, a roundabout way that works for me. I create the ringtone on cellfish.com, download it to my computer, and then reprocess it through ventones.com, which will resize it and text it to me, BUT the editing controls don't work, so it has to be fully formed before I send it. this is needlessly complicated, but it works, so shush.

As The Test Book Turns: Holiday Special

So, I took the SATs yesterday morning. I'm not allowed to talk about it. So I won't. Go away.

I got up at 6AM, but I actually woke up around 5 and laid awake for an hour. I got to the building at 7, and was the 19th person in line. Which was fortunate, as the first group of 20 took the test first (at 7.45) and I got out at 12.20 or so. Close call, right?
Anyway, it wasn't so bad. I'm pretty confident on all the English sections (except maybe the essay: the question was related to the government spying on us, and I know I'm supposed to be a republican I'm so, so not but I don't really care, as I have nothing to hide. I understand the longterm implications, but I just don't actually care...)

The math... I'm pretty sure I flunked. But that's okay, as I knew it would happen. I actually had a friend of Ashley's as the test administrator (and a fellow classmate in my awesome speech class) so that was nice. Also, a ridiculous amount of questions seemed to all have the same answer (C) and it unnerved me. Even though I know they had to be that answer.

As I said, I got out about 12.20 and was on my way to the theatre when I realised I hadn't actually eaten all day and my blood sugar was super low--hand shaking, possibly passing out low. So I made a detour and went through the drive through. It was pretty ridiculous: there was no line and my order (plain hamburger. NO I DON'T WANT AN ICED MOCHA JUST A STUPID HAMBURGER) took 20 minutes. So I ran into the theatre at 12.45 (or so) and began prepping for the matinee show, which will be discussed at length in the appropriate post.

We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty.
